Penguin oh penguin by Gladys and Helen Milroy
This thoughtful picture book tells the story of a curious and playful penguin that author Gladys Milroy has been sharing with generations of her children for over 60 years. Penguin is encouraged to play in the natural environment but ignores the advice and is drawn to a ship in the bay. Penguin is adventurous and loves to explore the unknown but does not realise the danger the ship brings - though the message has been told.
The rhyming verse in a large bold font against a brightly coloured background is perfect for younger readers.
We’ll roll in the snow
and ride on a whale.
And catch
that old albatross
by the tip of his tail.
The smaller size of this picture book is ideal for little hands. With gorgeous illustrations using elements of traditional techniques, this story has an important message to be told about being too curious and where it may lead. The QR code in the front of the book allows the reader to hear Gladys Milroy singing the song.
Themes: Penguins, Ships, Curiosity.
