(Age 6-10) Of immense appeal, especially for boys who love to make
gadgets, this whimsical tale relates the adventures of Hedley
Wheelspin, who returns to earth as a Mark XXVII GP robotech, after
being kidnapped by alien technokops. Hedley's original prototype had
been designed by Dicko Vickery but is now greatly enhanced, and he can
hover, lift weights and slash tyres with his cargo cutter.
Hedley's adventures with a pig, bush animals and a reptile thief are
vividly described and alive with humourous anecdotes. The use of
alliteration is especially prevalent and adds to the reader's
enjoyment.
David Miller's paper sculpture illustrations are delightfully original
and the detail in them adds a wonderful dimension to the story.
