Review:
Saving Arthur by Kathryn England,
Lothian, 2005
8+ Kathryn England has written an engaging fantasy using time
travel and the Arthurian legend as the basis for her story. Casey
Cantrell, the heroine of the story, finds an antique key in an old
grandfather clock and is taken back to the time of King Arthur, whom
she has been researching for a school play. When she returns, she
discovers that she is the only one to remember Camelot and the Knights
of the Round Table. She realises that something must have
happened to Arthur and enlists the help of Merlin to save Arthur from
drowning, thus keeping the legends alive.
This is an appealing book, and the short chapters and action should
appeal to younger readers. Casey is a capable, intelligent heroine, and
the minor characters are interesting. The plot holds the reader’s
interest and may lead to a desire for more information about the
Arthurian legends.
