There Was an Old Sailor by Claire Saxby and Cassandra Allen
Walker
Books, 2010. ISBN 9781921150715.
All
ages, highly recommended. This is a gorgeous picture book with a new
nautical
version of There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. With beautiful
illustrations accompanying the sailor's culinary ventures including
krill,
jellyfish, stingrays, a shark and finally a whale, children of all ages
will
laugh along with the rhymes and squeal with delight (and perhaps
revulsion)
until the final page. With a less morbid ending than the traditional
version,
children will enjoy this book over and over again. At the end of the
book there
is a page of fun fishy facts about each of the sea creatures involved
in the story.
